Declara.Tax is an educational tool that helps immigrants understand their US tax obligations. We take your privacy seriously. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights.
What We Collect
Information you provide
- -Tax situation answers: Your responses to diagnostic questions (visa type, income sources, filing status, foreign accounts). These are used solely to generate your personalized educational summary.
- -Chat messages: Your conversations with our AI assistant, used to provide responses and improve the service.
- -Email address: Only if you choose to provide it (for report delivery or account creation). Never required.
- -Payment information: If you purchase a report, payment is processed entirely by Stripe. We never see or store your card number, expiration date, or CVV.
Information collected automatically
- -Anonymous analytics: Page views, button clicks, and feature usage via PostHog. We use this to understand how people use the product and improve it.
- -Language preference: Stored in a browser cookie to remember your language choice.
- -Session data: A session identifier stored in a secure cookie so you can return to your conversation.
How We Use Your Data
- -To generate your personalized educational tax summary
- -To respond to your questions in the chat
- -To deliver your report via email (only if you request it)
- -To process payments through Stripe
- -To improve the quality of our AI responses and product experience
What We Will Never Do
- -Sell your data. We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to anyone, ever.
- -Publicly identify you. Your name, email, tax situation, and conversations will never be made public. We will never disclose your identity or information to media, researchers, or any third party for public attribution.
- -Share data with immigration authorities. We do not share any user data with ICE, USCIS, or any immigration enforcement agency. The IRS itself maintains a strict separation between tax filing and immigration enforcement.
- -Contact you without permission. We will only email you if you explicitly request report delivery or opt in to communications.
Third-Party Services
We use a limited number of trusted services to operate Declara.Tax:
- -AWS Bedrock (AI processing):Your conversation messages are sent to Amazon's AI service to generate responses. We do not send your name or email to the AI model.
- -Supabase (database): Your session data and messages are stored securely with row-level access controls.
- -Stripe (payments): Handles all payment processing. We never see your card details.
- -PostHog (analytics): Anonymous product usage analytics. No advertising or tracking networks.
- -Resend (email): Sends your report to your email address, only when you request it.
Cookies
We use only essential cookies:
- -Session cookie: Identifies your active conversation (30-day expiry, secure, httpOnly).
- -Language cookie: Remembers your language preference (1-year expiry).
We do not use advertising cookies, tracking pixels, or cross-site tracking of any kind.
Data Retention
Your conversation and report data is retained in our database to allow you to return to your session. Browser-side session data expires automatically after 24 hours of inactivity. You may request deletion of your data at any time by contacting us.

You have the right to:
